Hanging out in NY with Sue

Sue and I have been hanging out, eating good food, going for hikes, and doing a bit of exploring.  I had the problem with my knee for the first week or so, but it didn't stop our activities, probably just modified them a bit.  We enjoy cooking together (Sue really does most of the food planning and cooking, but I help out) and there is a really great brewery nearby (Tin Barn) where we like to try different beers and share.

Sue had this picture of Mom, Sue, and Me.  I'm going to guess I was in high school still.  I sure do miss Mom, especially when I see photos of her.  This Nov 16 is 25 years without her.

Hike to ???

Hike to Mullet Falls.  So pretty!

LOL!!!  Jet tried to be polite, but Zoe was taking up the whole backseat.  We had to pull over to adjust them.

YUCK!  Deer tick

How can that be comfortable???

On Friday, the 19th, we ate some bad food (probably bad baby Bella mushrooms) and we both had a bout of digestive issues that appeared at literally the same time.  Since that time, Sue has been fine, but I have not.  I managed it mostly with Pepto Bismol tablets and we even went into NYC for two days.  Thank goodness for the Pepto, which allowed me to basically eat as I normally would.  Maybe that wasn't too smart, but it made it much more enjoyable!  My stomach still hurt a bit, so I was a bit preoccupied, but still had a great time.  I ended up going to urgent care and had some testing done since I'd been dealing with this for 10 days.

NYC - 10/22-24 - After waffling about what to do, we decided on just 2 days in NYC.  I cannot believe how much money we spent for 2 days between $1000 for hotel (actually got a discount due to check in issues), $250 or so for the pups to stay at a Rover, then food and activities.  Total was about $2300 for the two of us!  Seems crazy, but it was fun.  We did a lot, but there is just so much to do in NYC.  We mostly stayed around midtown as that was where the apartment was.

We rented an apartment with three bedrooms.  It wasn't much more expensive that a hotel (less than many) and was great to have our own bedrooms.  The apartment was great and in Hell's Kitchen area, so we were able to walk to everything.  We only took the subway twice - once from lower Manhattan to Central Park and then down to the 9/11 memorial (and back).  The only negative about the apartment was that we had to schedule a check-in time so that they could give us the keys.  This was annoying because we had to be there at a certain time and then they were 45 minutes late!  Oh, well.  It was all good from there, but I might not do that again unless we could get a more agreeable time.

From the High Line Trail

What is this saying?  AMERICA with everything but ME crossed out.  That we are self centered?

After the High Line, we headed to Little Island which was really cool and a lovely tiny oasis.

Then we went to see the Elephants.  One hundred life size elephants as part of "The Great Migration", which is to motivate humans to share space with animals.  (To learn more) The elephants were supposed to leave on 10/20, and it did seem that they were starting to pack them up, but we were lucky that they were still there (10/23).  I'm assuming the numbers on the blue tape was to indicate where each elephant goes in the packing and then back on the next street location.

A tiny 😂 yacht

Then onto Central Park
View over the Jackie Kennedy Onassis Reservoir

What was this guy doing with his hind feet up in the air?

Roosevelt Castle

We went to see Water for Elephants, which was fantastic.  So much fun and we had great seats.  Very creative in making the animals and very colorful.  Great singing and acrobatics.  We both loved it!

We hung out in Times Sq to see the synchronized LCD screens showing art at 11:57 for 3 minutes.  It definitely wasn't worth it, but we did have some fun people watching!

10/24 - our last morning.
On the way to the Freedom Tower, we stopped at Liberty Bagels.  We hesitated because there was a huge line and basically had a bouncer, but we decided it would probably be worth it and we were right!  About a 15 minute wait in total, so not too bad.

We went to the 9/11 memorial museum, which was really good and really hard.  I would like to go back to see more, but I was done.  It was super emotional and there was only so much I could take at one time.  It just brought me back to the day as it happened.  I wonder what it's like for people who didn't experience it in real time (via TV/radio for me).

Hike to Sterling Forest.  Nice 4 mile loop around the lake.

3/19 - 3/27 - Taos, NM, TX panhandle, Rte 66 in Oklahoma and a bit of Kansas

3/19 - Heading to Taos Rio Grande Having a cold drink in the Rio Grande The Slide Trail in the canyon in Orilla Verde Rec Area.   About 2 mi...
